One out: One in

June 1, 2010

Ah well just as things were going well it fails 😦

The face to face for tomorrow has been cancelled but the good news is I’ve got an invitation for another……but it clashes with several things , what to do what to do.

I received and email from PCS (more about them in a mo) inviting me to a FREE networking event in Manchester it’s going to cost abut £12.oo if yo include the train our parking and I’ve not decided which to use first.

Fingers crossed I meet some useful people and we can help each other.

PCS are a company you pay a LOT of money to and the mentor you to your next job, all good stuff but there are no guarantees so like a good reporter I made my excuses and left, bu hey an invite came out of it 😀

Get a good book

May 24, 2010

I’m halfway through  a book called The Reluctant Networker by Neil Munz-Jones. It’s a very easy read and has some good points that help, I’ve written to him and he’s allowing me to quote him as long as I say he’s a nice chap 😀

The book is something that should be read early in life as one of the things he points out is that working hard is NOT its own reward, grrrrrr I was robbed because that’s exactly what I was brought up on; still it’s never too late to learn.

It’s diffucult to stay positive in the face of so much nagativity, no job, no money, rejections, no answer at all and the constant looking. I have no answer to this, retail therapy is out  (no money) and going out with friends is out for the same reason. what to do what to do.

I suppose the only thing is to hold on to the smallest positives that come my way. I found a networking event, just the one that is affordable at £15 but £15 pounds means less luxuries such as paying a  bill on time. I’ve asked and I’ve searched the net but cannot find any free events or events for under £5.00. I was invited to a very exciting one where I’m guaranteed to meet the brightest and the best only catch is it’s £150, not a hope in hell.

I’m trying to stay on track with my goal of networking everyday but it’s so easy to get distracted. Today for instance I’ve had a bunch of guys using my garden as a base to rescue some fish left stranded in an abandoned pond, muuuch more interesting than my other tasks.

I’ve managed nothing today, no local networking events found, no new blood on Linked in and no jobs coming my way. Now what?

I did searches for groups (Groups, groups directory, search groups) in my field and then for groups in the field I want to get in to namely NHS. Some groups joined me up immediately and I received a message from the group owner and an invite to link up, new blood already, hurrah!!

Now to start looking for events, wish me luck.

Today is another day

May 11, 2010

Yesterday was an altogether frustrating day, forgotten keys, car not ready at garage, forgotten phones and worst of all a rejection. A few weeks ago I’d offered my very extensive services for free to my local hospital trust to gain some experience in the NHS and put something back in the community and yesterday it was rejected; I’m sad.

But today is another day.

I’ve already written a very nice email back saying I was disappointed and what I’d hoped to achieve for them and I’m available in the future. Point for me.
